Why All Church Musicians Should Use Ableton Live

Ableton Live is, by far, the most flexible DAW you can use as a church musician. If you're running your playback, loops, and multitracks in Logic, Reason, or Pro Tools, I honestly feel like you're doing yourself a disservice.

I've been there. I used Logic in church to run a playback session, and there's just something about running Logic live that can get glitchy. Maybe you haven't experienced that yet but before you do, I'd highly suggest making the switch to something as flexible and reliable as Ableton.

Personally, I use Ableton in two ways: running multitracks and running loops every Sunday.

The cool thing about Ableton is that I can store all of my loops in one place. Let's say we have 100 songs in rotation throughout the year at church. I keep all of those in one loop template, and week to week, all I have to do is find the song and drag it into my Sunday setlist section. It literally takes 30 seconds, and it helps me feel prepared and organized going into any service no matter what song the team decides to do.

Ableton gives me the flexibility to jump around on the fly, and it goes way beyond just running playback. It can run lyrics, control lights, and you can even produce full tracks in it. The possibilities are wide open.

But if you want a head start, a template like my MK Ableton Live Loop Set Template takes the work out of building everything from scratch. Your loops are already color-coded, in alphabetical order, and ready to go — so you can walk into any service feeling prepared for whatever happens.

If you're looking for more tools and resources for your local church, check out my website and take a look at the template.
